    Found this crock today at goodwill. The only markings that I could find are XH3. I don't have a clue what it was used for.

      Interesting. I looked around a little and saw two examples but no information on who made them or what the numbers represent. They did call them water Crocks although I'm not sure if that's correct?

      Thanks dav2no1 for the information. Once you identified it I went to E-bay and found a couple of examples. Just need a lid to make it complete and you don't never know one might turn up somewhere now that I know what to look for. Why would someone put water in these crocks? Would they get water out of a well and store it? Thanks everyone for stopping by and looking and loving at this $2.99 buy at the goodwill.

      Well I was wondering myself..

      ceramic has a natural ability to keep the water cool. Many agree that this is the ideal temperature for drinking water.
