US Miniature Model 1883 Gatling Gun
Approximately 7 inches long x 4-1/4 inches wide x 4-1/4 inches high.
Features an operating Firing-Crank-Handle, a removable Ammo Magazine, and with 3 Wheels (2 Large in front, 1 small in rear of carriage) that turn.
Another piece from my garage art collection. Unfortunately my model is missing the magazine which is removable and was lost by the previous owner.
GATLING GUN
The Gatling gun is operated by a hand-crank mechanism, with six barrels revolving around a central shaft (although some models had as many as ten). Each barrel fires once per revolution at about the same position.
One of the best-known early rapid-fire firearms, the Gatling gun saw occasional use by the Union forces during the American Civil War, which was the first time it was employed in combat.
The Gatling gun, the first modern, reliable machine gun, was invented in Indianapolis in 1862. It was invented by Dr. Richard Jordan Gatling. Gatling was in Indianapolis in the 1860s completing a railroad contract.
