      Dav, I'm not real sure about that. This appears to be for spreading something, and why would you spread chains ? Of course it was online, so it must be right !

      Also, behind the spring, the handles look like they are made to grip something.

      BB2 this is not like a master link tool. This is for like chain you would see on the chandelier. You can spread it to remove links in the handle portion you can use to squeeze back together.

      Yes.
      Chain pliers.
      Used to separate and rejoin light fixture chains.

      It took me too long and cost me... I had to hang one of the light fixtures for free last week. =)
      Fair enough!
      I figured it out when I was given four fixtures to hang and an odd look when I was told to use the correct tools for the job.
      I now have a new tool that I won't use but once in a blue moon.
