This 1 1-2" hedgehog brooch has flared black enamel spines, with white pave rhinestones in front & two red eyes on goldtone, unsigned. Paired with a 3"W clear glass hedgehog from Hadeland Norway, name etched on bottom, a kind gift from a lovely friend. Both pieces ca. 1970s
You've a great friend there to get such a gift! This is a really sweet little brooch but with the long spines he kinda resembles a porcupine too? Hedgehogs can be mischievous little creatures- like I said so before we had one sneaking into our garden and stealing dog food from the shed(he'd roll up in a ball when caught)
Very cute little beings and rarely depicted in art and sculpture I think?!
I think your brooch is more echidna like!
Great pair :)
Thank you so much for the love

Thank you Lauren for your fabulous comment, I love hedgehogs too although seen from afar on wildlife docs, never found one in my garden (we live below sea level now so see more marine animals than we used to but still see small mammals like squirrels & rabbits) but they sure have the cutest faces. I must agree the pin is more porcupine type with the long spines, great call. Yes I have an absolutely wonderful, kind & generous friend who has also given me more animal beauties for future posts, thank you K :)
Karen thank you for the super praise from a fellow animal lover, you are so right the brooch could also be an echidna, it was called hedgehog by the person I got it from but probably just guessing. I know they are in a different group but they look kinda nice together, two spiny foraging animals to keep each other company!
Thank you so much Sean for the love and support, you are always so kind & glad you enjoyed this hedgehog pair
Many thanks dlpetersen for the love and support, I am very grateful and always happy to see you here on CW :)
