This is a vase that I rescued from being lamped...I bought it because of it was different and beautifully imperfect with its abstract design.....it is Chinese as I thought....I'm not completely sure about the age...it is 13 in ht.......I did have it evaluated on another site for a small fee....it was said to be Qing late 1880-1900......of which is great....but on this site, there is a area where you can share your favorite things....on this site one of the members made a comment that the vase was not old....its only made to look that way, and should have been lamped... etc, and that it was more recent ,...(that person may have had a bug in her pants and just wanted to be mean)..... now that person like many others on that site are people who claim to be experienced at evaluating Asian antiques.....so I'm not sure who to believe?...now that person did not know that I had already had the vase appraised by the owner of that site.....I did share that with her after I read her comment....what I am learning ...is that the antique business of purchases and appraisals etc...is buyer beware and somewhat cut-throat.....meaning that one can take their antique to be appraised, and they may be told that the item is not valuable or that it is worth much less....so then the person is feeling dejected.....will then put the item up for sale on a internet site, and others can go onto that site to purchase the item for a lot less......or a antique dealer can then offer to purchase the item for pennies.... and sell it for hundreds..... even thousands depending on what the item is.....and the seller is none the wiser...because they didn't know the true value of the antique......this is just my take on things.....I'm a city girl...and a little skeptical when it comes to these type of things......but I do however accept the appraisal that was paid for......as a relatively new collector.....I think we all want to feel like we've found something old and great or of some value
well publish the appraisal report , stay out of this sharkpool, , this is a collectors site , one ought to do this for free
i don,t dont know this , but i don,t nothing about chinese porcelain , but the hot shots of major auction houses want to see the report, because there is paid for
Earthenware - pottery, not porcelain. I honestly can’t see anything that points to “Qing late 1880-1900”. I’d be interested to see similar known examples of wares from that period with a drip glaze of that type. The form form does have a somewhat Asian feel to it. The base looks like it was made to fit into a stand or base of some type, but it’s hard to tell as photographed. In the the side pic, the base is obscured but the grass. If it weren’t for (what I think is) the base style, I’d be more inclined to think US made, possibly NC or KY, circa the 1950s to 70s.
Could you add a picture of the vase, directly from the side, on a flat surface, against a solid background?
