Found these in a box of older items that appear to be untouched for decades. nothing in the box was more recent than late 50s/early 60s. These are about 7" x 6" opened up (Tri-fold in storage all this time). I know my mom went to Mexico in late 50s, but these seem more Native American. Could have come from another family member though. Anyone have any ideas? The colors are sharp and vivid, they are really cool.
If those were mine, I would make them into a quilt rather than let them be used as napkins.
The colors are so pretty and the embroidered figures very nicely done.
Interesting idea!
The bird looks more like the work of the Mayans that moved from Guatemala to southern areas of Mexico years ago. Mayan works were quite the thing from around 1952 through 58. Most of it unmarked and some fairly valuable if you have it appraised. I know because I happen to still own some Mayan items from both Guatemala and Mexico.
The colors in the symbols are very distinctive. But so far I haven't seen anything that matches.
