This tool is approximately 2 1/2 inches long. One end works like a pair of tweezers. The other end rotates from a pointed end to an end with an eye. I have no idea what the material is, but it looks like it could have had a silver coating at one time. I do not know what it was used for. It is probably dated from 1870's to 1930's.

Some sort of scriber? The tweezer ends grips something, you rotate it so the pin marks a radius. Just guessing.
With the design of the tool it would be difficult to rotate and hold an item at the same time. The pointed tip rotates from the pointed end to the eye end only. Thanks for the suggestion.
I think it's meant to go back and forth. Possibly a knitting tool?
dav2no1 - I am a knitter. I do not know how this tool would work for knitting. Do you have any suggestions as to other avenues I might use to determine what this tool might have been used for?
This is a multi-tool which combines an awl and tweezer for leather and fabric work.
That sounds about right I was thinking for knitting like rugs?
Is the pointed end sharp? Or more like an awl?
I’ve never known rugs to be knitted.
The pointy end would be sharp so it can puncture leather or some tough fabric.
Rugs are loop knitted. I cant tell from the picture if its sharp or not?
Were you guessing or you know for sure that'sits a fabric multi-tool?
It looks sharp/pointed on end to me.
There’s one almost identical to it on Etsy and that’s what it’s called there.
dav2no1, it just occurred to me that you might be referring to a rug made with a punch needle....a punch needle makes loops. The needle part has to be hollow like a large-gauge hypodermic needle size yarn can go thru it.
I’ve made small punch needle embroidery items back in my crafting days...nothing as large as a rug though.
Looking at these pictures, I don’t see an eye in the “needle” part. But that is something that needs to be clarified.
I was just making educated guesses. You're probably right.
The pointed end is sharp. It is flat. I usually think of an awl as being round with a pointed end. This is flat with a pointed end. This part of the tool rotates to an end with an eye. It could have been used for leather work. I am just not sure what it is and how it was used. I searched Etsy and found nothing like it. Thanks!
On Etsy, try entering multi function fabric picker tweezer awl.....the one there is more simple than yours in that it does not rotate. It does have the tweezer in one end and the “pick” part in the other.
Yours might have another use entirely, but the one on Etsy is very close in design.
Have you tried punching the pointed end thru a heavy fabric such as canvas or leather to make an opening, then pushing a cord thru that opening and using the tweezer instead of your fingertips you get a grip to pull it on thru? (As if you were lashing together sail canvas or such heavy fabric).
