This tray is 9.5" long x 5.25" wide x .5" high and has a raised, painted mark on the bottom. This tray is quite thick and it is apparently fine porcelain, not just ceramic. Parts of the design are definitely transfers, I think, but other parts appear to be hand painted. When I bought it, I thought it was all done with transfers, but it was so colorful that I could not resist as it was quite inexpensive. The design appears to be flat in my images but the edges of each individual component are raised and some of the components appear to have been incised before being decorated. That can be seen, to an extent, in the extreme left of the first image and to a greater extent in the third image. I was surprised by the quality of the piece when it came. Not sure of its intended use. I have not tried to determine who made it, yet.
Hello kwqd, My Japanese friends have served me shashimi on plates like these, so I bought one for myself. Mine has a much simpler, all blue design.
Thanks Congcu! I was guessing it had some food related purpose!
Thanks Kevin and aura!
Fantastic blossom design, very nice
Thank you Jenni! I appreciate your comment!
Thanks for loving my tray fortapache, Jenni, Watchsearcher and dav2no1!
Very nice! It's definitely got a food related use! The pattern's colours are lovely and muted in tone
Thanks for your comment LaurenRedmond! Yeah, the colors and pattern are what initially got my attention.
Thanks for taking a look at my Japanese tray PhilDMorris, Vynil33rpm, Thomas, LaurenRedmond and fortapache!
Thank you ho2cultcha!
Thank you MarmorealMaiden!
I would somehow hand this on the wall Kevin so I could look at it lots, but I guess there's not much space left on your art filled walls!
Good idea Karen. This piece is pretty breakable, though. There are a couple places that I could probably squeeze it in, if I could find a good mounting solution. I will have to cogitate on it some.
