Here is a 3"H yellow satin glass lion head paperweight from Gillinder Glass of Port Jervis NY from the 1990s, original design made in the late 1800s as the cap to an inkwell

Very nice lion- this could have been a great Leo themed upload too! :D His colour is a really bright unusual shade of bright yellow too and especially from the side he does look like those regal stone lions outside buildings which always look so formidable and proud

Very British looking, the hands are up as they usually are when standing with a crest or coat of arms. Love these !~

That's a really great paperweight, Jenni! O'd bet that The Lion Brewery would appreciate seeing that, as Lionshead Beer is their primary product@

Gillinder - another new name for me. So many glass makers in the US!
Amazing history and he is so regal.

Lauren you are psychic, this was absolutely going to be the Leo post this year, only because of the frosted glass I just could not get a sharply defined picture - so finally decided to try outdoors on a sunny day, and here he is! Yes he does look like he was modeled after one of those beautiful stone lions, very regal indeed & always appreciate your fabulous insightful comments they're the best :)

Thanks Phil for the wonderful comment & I totally agree he has that British lion bearing, perhaps the lion is so popular in Britain because it is king of the jungle, perhaps a monarchy symbol do you think

Ted thank you for the great comment and you had me running to the 'net to research the Lion Brewery, they have a lion statue on top of their South Bank London building that is a ringer for this one, perhaps it was the inspiration - great observ!

Thanks Karen for the super comment and I am always excited to find a 'new' vintage US glass co to hopefully score some animals like this one. Seems the co was originally called Gillinder & Sons glass in the 1800s but changed to just Gillinder in later yrs. This was originally a clear or clear frosted inkwell top, then they came out with a couple colors in the 90s incl this lemon yellow and lavender, they're in a book I have called Glass Animals & Figurines by Coe, great picture book
