Frankfurt Limited Print by Hans Potrebny
15" x 11"
Hans Potrebny was active/lived in Germany. Hans Potrebny is known for Painting.
This is about all the information I can find on the artist. Seems kind of strange since he seems to have quite a few paintings and prints. And his work is very good and detailed.
Picked this up a few days ago at a local thrift store. I bought this for the frame with the intention of swapping one of my other prints into the frame. Bought it for $8.
After some contemplation I decided to leave the print in the frame. It is signed and shows a limited edition number.
There is a signature on the right side, a limited print number in the middle and more writing on the left side.
The writing on the left Almost looks like it says Frankfurt? I am not sure, and what does the "/M" represent?
**UPDATE**
fhrjr2 stated: "Frankfurt a M or just M is Frankfurt on the Main (river) I lived there a number of years in the 60's and 70's"
Thanks to all that helped to solve the mystery!
Frankfurt aM or just M is Frankfurt on the Main (river) I lived there a number of years in the 60's and 70's
Okay thanks for that info. I'd never seen that abbreviation before and it wasn't sure what it meant. Thanks for clarifying. My guess was pretty good..
The Main River is actually pronounced mine not main.
Okay thanks for the info. Now if I can just decipher the artist signature we may be onto something. It's a very well done detailed print.
Frankfurt am Main has a historical society and museum where you might inquire. I will post a link below to their site that is in English. If you don't get the English version just click the E at the top of the site main page. Good Luck.

Thanks I will try that and see if we can get some results. Maybe my $8 will turn into a good investment?
I emailed them so we'll see if they get back to me.
Signature first name is Hans, I believe.
I think you may be correct. I believe it may be hans potrebny. I will do a little more research and then update the post.
Hello, I know this is an older post, but I have several paintings by Hans Potrebny and can provide at least a little background. I was in the Army, stationed in Hanau, Germany from 1981-1985. The PX had booths as well as traveling exhibitions where you could buy local arts and crafts. I met Mr. Potrebny at one of these and purchased four of his watercolors. Two have since been lost in moves, and it was during a search to try to replace them that I found this listing. I have his painting of Miltenberg (very popular) and another of a stream with a Bauernhof in the background. The missing ones are of a bridge in Nürnberg and a winter scene of a barn in tree-covered mountains (my favorite). As you can imagine, much of this sort of art from Germany will have been brought back by returning servicemembers.
BJF1775 .. thank you for sharing the information. It's always welcomed to get information on artists that you don't know.
I have a lot of art and still have several mystery pieces.
Maybe you can post some of your pieces. Would love to see other works by this attist.
