Posting this RPPC as a tie-in to Olliefine's recent offering. Will continue to keep my eyes open for an original sign. The repro is a beauty as well.

What a great photo documenting our past. I especially like the boy and his dog. The lady on the end (right side of photo) looks like she’s in charge and not to be “messed with” or else!!

Would the roof be considered boards? They don’t look like split wood shingles.
The Coke sign really dressed the establishment up.

Nice image-- an original would set you back about $100+ depending on condition, so a repro is a reasonable alternative!

Great photo ! I wonder if that is not a house but a place for workers to eat at break ? I love it . I can't imagine why they hung a cola sign :-) pretty cool as is all your collection . Stay safe and well my friend and nice to see drop in .

Hi Manikin, yes I've wondered about that too... "Meals At All Hours". I guess that means it was a 24/7 operation. Wish I could go back for a bowl of stew and biscuit LOL

We're doing fine here in Michigan and hope you and yours as well. I always take time to view your posts and try to keep up with all the wonderful objects being collected. Thank you!

Sure hope that's not their curb-service crew. Luv the mud & stick chimney.

Hanging in there Daddy, but that's better than hanging.

This photo "sucks you in" and leaves you with a ton of questions. Look at their bodylanguage and expressions. It breaks my heart. They look like if they don't want to be in the photo. Who are they? What happened after the photo was taken?
Very interesting photo and an important historic piece.

I looked at this photo several times because it does draw one in. Just now, I’m realizing that the 4th person from the left has his left coat sleeve pinned over to the center of his coat: his left arm must be missing. Everything in a black man’s life depended on the amount of physical work he could do....a horrible fact of the nation’s history.

The younger women have defiant, angry
expressions, thank God!! I hope that shows they are not accepting of their station in life. I hope their “situation” improved by having this business.

Others in the group have totally downtrodden expressions- likely hopeless in lives held back, put down, deprived and abused.

Being that meals were served at all hours, their establishment could be located outside a cotton mill or some other type mill which operated non-stop.
The men might be “mill hands”. None look glad to be there....maybe fearing they would be judged “out of line”, stepping out of “their place” by being in a photograph. It’s very likely the photographer was white and directed them to line up there for a picture. They would have felt obligated to oblige.

I wish these folks could have known back then that things would improve for their descendants.
