Here's the second of my latest Melamine additions to the collection. A very nice British United Airways piece that could have been a promo item for travel agents, ticketing offices or even check-in desks, in the glorious heyday of public smoking.
The airline was a fairly large charter operation which launched in 1960 and operated as BUA until it was bought by the UKs second largest carrier, British Caledonian in 1970.
I really like the shape, the whole empennage design looks brilliant and it's certainly a real eye-catcher. The ashtray's in lovely condition with just one small chip underneath one of the cigarette rests.
It's surprisingly heavy and the underside reads, ' Stembridge Thompson Ltd, London' in one part, in another part it's marked 'On Loan, Made in England'
Quite what the 'on loan' means, I have no idea. Thoughts, anyone?
Anyway, I hope you like this and as ever, I'm really pleased to add more to my aviation themed collectables.
Very cool & unique ashtray design
Neat design !
Thanks for the positive thoughts, folks.
Much appreciated and glad you like it.
