I have a small collection of Japanese pottery and ceramics and this little vase is one of my favourites.
The only mark is a very faint Japan stamped on the bottom. Great glaze over all, lots of raised and textured sections, and the shape is so balanced. But I particularly love the fish motif on each side with it's fat body and happy face. So appealing in a very Japanese way.
It has a very Lisa Larsen look to it I think. I know she was influenced by Japanese ceramics and art.
Adorable fish image, his bubbly blue scales are so pretty & what a cute face! A very happy piece for sure
It looks immpecably made, the quality seems unsurpassed ! I am in love with it !~
I love fish and I love this! The shape of it as well as the sort of naivistic look of the fish. Love the fact that it is a small vase. So charming. Wish it was mine and I know what I would keep in it and where it would stand ha ha :)
What a cool piece :-) makes you smile
I like this a lot, Karen. Great shade of blue on the fish. What are the dimensions?
PRETTY FISHY !!! JUST JOKING. LOVE IT !!!
Thanks so much Jenni, yep it's a delight to have around.
Phil I don't think the Japanese can make bad pottery, and thanks for the love and appreciation.
Imagine away Elisabethan it shall always be mine bwahaha!
But really, thanks for the love and I'm happy it brings a smile to your face too.
Indeed it does Mani. Thanks.
I should have put that in I know Kevin! Thanks.
It's around 13cm high x 11cm wide x 4.5cm deep. That's about 5in x 4in x 2.5in for the metrically challenged.
it's certainly an appealing piece.
Thanks Vet!
Charming - 1960-70s I suspect.
