Something about the lifestyle of the Victorian Era and later triggers the nostalgia for simpler and more pleasant times.
Men especially had a lifestyle were they were pampered and looked after. Establishments for their social and personal grooming were well attended, a female free environment and a relaxed hour or two in good familiar company and surroundings.
If you have a close look at the decor and accessories, you will see a shelving system for personal shaving mugs, and flasks on the back of the ornate wooden counter with large framed wall mirrors.
Many of these bottles were made and exported from Bohemia to England, where they were finished with a sterling silver rim. My collection has a few of those as well as 1920s type of bold spatters colored glass flasks. USA also had their decorative glass barber bottles, these are a highly collectible category, especially the rarer ones still in good condition.
Thanks Eileen, that is exactly what I was going for, there were many old photos of these fancy barber shops I found, some with a dozen chairs and stations all along one wall. I admired the panels of woodworking and yes the marble tops. Best.
