My cousin's father gave him this sword, telling him it came from the Spanish American War. I haven't been able to find one like it. Anyone have a clue?

This is a WWII Japanese NCO sabre. Had one as a kid. Is the blade sharpened ?

Yes, I have concluded it is a Japanese Type 32 “B” shorter version for non-cavalry NCO’s. The mystery now is how a sword made in what looks to be made in 1912 based on the serial number, came to be in the possession of a Spanish American War vet 14 years after that war.

Maybe he traveled with the "Great White Fleet"? Am I allowed to use that term ?
