~Presenting El Tabaco~
May I introduce you to my newest love? Actually, he's my oldest, age-wise, but newest, too: a beloved friend agreed to let him broaden my barware owl cabinet... with friends like that, who needs a fairy godmother? Not me. Love you, Betty. Anywayyyyyyyyyyyy... he is a HUMIDOR, about 13 inches tall, Majolica, marked on base as photographed, PROBABLY 1880-ish-plus, PROBABLY Continental European, PROBABLY a popular line in his day... DEFINITELY fabulous. There are examples online, different heights/sizes, and with/without the book-as-base element. You know I have to name my owls. I'm calling him El Tabaco. How I wish I could learn more about him, the better to enhance our romance!
Honestly, some of my owls, especially the figural ones, just enchant me, you know? Thinking of all the things they have "seen" (history, heritage, horrors, maybe even decades in dark boxes or cabinets), finally to emerge intact, to grace somebody's collection... and then to be shared online with all of you??
Thank you, Collectors Weekly.
Happy New Year HappyHourOwls, and to El Tabaco too, he's quite handsome! Have a great year 2022
