These cups are 2.5" tall x 3.5" diameter x 1.5" base, signed on the bottom, with wooden box and ribbon. These were purchased in Seoul, Korea in the early 1980s and the seller thought they were Korean made. I see some Japanese characters and some I do not recognize.
My study of Japanese pottery often mentions the Korean origins of some Japanese pottery, so I became curious and started keeping an eye out for some modestly priced Korean art pottery and came across this set. I do not know anything about Korean pottery, but have seen some similar Korean cups with crane and cloud motif in celadon glaze.
I bought these as a learning experience. Can anyone tell me anything about these cups or some good on line sources about Korean pottery to get me started?
Nice looking cups...i like the color.

Thanks dav2no1! This appears to be a very common style. I guess this set is by a specific artist or kiln but much similar pottery appears to be the equivalent of Japanese mingei ware.
