My husband came across this via FB market place and we ar completely in love with everything about it, the strong sturdy frame work, and the attention to detail that truly takes our breath away! we would like to gather some more history of this peace and also we are torn between restoring it or keeping it as is. Either way, it's a beautiful addition to our home!

Ok, this is a barrel top travel trunk probably from around late 1880' to early 1890's because of the Eastlake style lock on it, very cool locks somewhat rare, but you see them around, this trunk was sold as a fancy tin trunk in the old catalogs, this one has a flower pattern, this is a cross slat design,(top slats running front to back) the pressed tin slat clamps marked MAR 16 80 were patented by Charles Taylor in 1880, the finger like hardware on the top edges was patented by John H. Sessions around late 1870's this was common hardware used by all trunk makers at the time, the inside of trunks were decorated with colorful trim and lithographs, some more than others, the lithographs were random and had no particular meaning to the trunk or persons owning it, without a makers label impossible to say who the maker was as this style of trunk was made by hundreds of makers at the time, hope this helps.
