Here's a near pair of vintage STROMBERG-CARLSON 'monoblock' tube amplifiers. I say 'near-pair' because these are only two of three total I actually own, the 3rd (still to be re-found) is a much more closer relative to the one on the RH side pic 1, where the one on the LH side there actually came along a little later from another source.
RH example is as original and intact as it can be I think, still stuck full of S-C branded tubes and with original cord and factory inspection tag. (pic 3) LH example has differently branded tubes on it and a non-original power cord (at least) suggesting it might have been 'worked on' sometime along the way.
I have not attempted to 'power up' either one to determine whether they still function, though I have little doubt that if done carefully I could do so, and they probably would. ;-) :-) I also don't truly know exactly how old they are, though I'd bet 1930's-40's.
4 6L6s is a lot of power. They look like they're in great shape. Had you previously played them?
Nope Gar3th, I haven't. They (all) came from various vintage (read: disused/replaced) electronic tower-bell systems in old churches where they'd been abandoned in-place - I rescued them along with the rest of their related equipment simply because I asked if I could have it and the people in charge said "sure, if you want all that old junk" -- nearly certain that nobody then knew what *any* of that stuff was, even if they realized it was still hidden away up there under the tower. Was it worth it for me to haul it all off?? I tend to think so... ;-) ;-) :-) :-)
I would be interested in one of these or both. I have a collection of old tubes amps that I restore.
