our beautiful curly maple step-back cupboard

This is our step-back cupboard that was made by a friend, who was a local contractor that we used to remodel our kitchen and powder room.
Our powder room and laundry room were back-to-back and both were rather small. We decided to combine the both into one larger room that would hold a shower stall. We changed the entrance which left us with an empty wall where the old doorway was. A step-back cupboard would fit the bill nicely and I could fill it with my “stuff”.
We saw a similar cupboard at a furniture shop and it was made from pine. We took photos of it and showed it to our friend. He said he could make us a similar cabinet and asked me what species of wood would I like. I said curly maple of course.
The man who brings our firewood said that he had a beautiful rock maple log that bore a beautiful curl, was too pretty to cut into firewood and it would be ideal for furniture. There was enough wood from this log to make the entire cupboard, so this is the final outcome, and, it was one fourth the cost of the commercial cupboard.
