Years ago it was common to have your babies first shoes bronzed and that appears to be what this is and maybe they made it useful ?
Somewhere I still have one of my bronzed baby shoes. Haven't seen it in years but pretty sure I still have it. I am a twin and was born when my parents were 40 years old so we suffered all of the indignities put on surprise children x2. This looks more like a brass casting to me as opposed to a bronzed baby shoe. I think it lacks the detail one would see in an actual baby shoe. Toothpick or match holder?
I've researched it is a match holder they were used years ago for holding matches and the lines on the back were used for lighting/striking them ... but that's all I do know
