I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction with this vase. It appears to be turned on a lathe and hand-paintedwooden. It is a pretty thing with some shrinkage cracks and signs of age, but I cannot be sure. Thank you!

I think this is Persian/Ottoman art on a wooden vessel, they produced these and also some lacquer vases with painted decoration. Looks pretty old. Good find, thanks for posting.

I would agree with it being turned as the lines show even where painted in some areas. Old? In relation to what? The cracking is normal if the wood isn't treated properly. If it doesn't leak you can stop or at least slow the cracking with boiled linseed oil. NOT RAW LINSEED OIL. Get a quart or even pint of boiled linseed oil and pour it in and let it sit over night. Save the oil and lay a thick coat on the bottom. Do not brush it in, lay it on thick and let it soak in. If it leaks, pour some oil in and swish it around good to coat the inside. The linseed oil is a natural oil from trees used to prevent drying and splitting. If you worry about more splitting get some greenwood was and coat the bottom well. Greenwood wax is use to stop splitting in green wood until it is dried enough to put on the lathe. I doubt anyone can assign an age based on the wood or the cracks. I sooner think the art work holds that answer.

fhrjr2, thank you. I am just going to leave it as is. It is what it is, and I will keep looking to see if I can find some similar art. Hope you've been well.

in the best case scenario its Kashmir, but probably Jammu, its not Safavid or Qujar
, they just use a Persian motif, i don,t think its old , but certainly its nice
