This is an article that was published in the "Naval Avation News" of November 1964, I was lucky enough to witness this event and even had pictures (Until the "spooks" found me, they opened my camera and took out the film! ) This never happened again as it was deemed unnecessary. At the bottom of the page are my thoughts about the current state of "Show and Tell". When you ask for my opinion, be prepared to hear the unfiltered truth.
Thanks ttom and Kevin
I know that many people on here (and off) find me offensive. Let me explain, I think that this kind of thing is what this site was concieved for but recently it has become "Show and Ask" , then get angry when you don't get the answer you want.
I think we need a few new catagories to help us out.....
1. What is it?
2. What is the Value?
3. Can I get another opinion?
4. I'm just here to cause trouble !!
I took the liberty of posting this here so that someone can't say I'm picking on them.....
How about a "Please tell me this thing I found is so valuable that I'll never have to work again." catagory?
Actually, I've only been here a short while, but haven't seen as many trouble makers as other places on the net. I also like the mystery items, because it gives me a chance to haul out my reference books and lend a hand, or to learn from some of the smart folk here.
@Chrisnp, don't get me wrong, I don't mind doing researeh for someone who does some work on there own but most of the ones I see on here just buy something and hope that it is worth more than they paid without knowing a single thing abouit it.....
...and then complain when told their lack of research and knowledge resulted in the purchase of a common item, low value item or a fake!
scott....HOO-RAH !
I am sure the "love" is for the man not just the article...although it has been a long time since I've heard someone talk about "spooks" ! LOL
I don't know what all the fuss is about (of course I have not been on here as much as I used to be). No one forces us to answer someones inquiry. I do it for fun. I try to point them in a direction not necessarily get the whole answer. Sometimes I stumble on the answer!
It's pretty easy to spot the boneheads. God luv 'em !
I'm on your side Pop-abides !
Like my Daddy used to say, "Well bless there hearts!", that's a southernism..........
I've only been here a short time but I must say I'm a bit turned off by the fact that this site could easily be named Dealers Weekly. We all sell occasionally.I do to make room for something new that I like better.Or if I'm REALLY strapped for cash. But to brag about something so terrific in your "collection" and then sell it on Ebay. That's not a collector.
I equate it to going to a used car dealer and seeing a beaut of a 55 Chevy with a price tag and the owner telling of his "collection".
Just my two cents worth of a rant.
Thanks Hedgewalker, I guess we all have our little peeves, my other post got deleted by CW for not fitting the guide lines.....? Say What ? I'm really against anyone using this as a front for a sale of any sort.......but if the administrators say it's o.k. then.................
I thought that was one of the rules. That you couldn't put items on that were for sale. When I first came on I put a ceiling light on.I have low ceilings.I thought I could make it work but could not.So I described it on here and mentioned that I had to get rid of it for that reason.Someone asked if I were selling it.I said yes. They asked for a link.I posted the link and the light got yanked.
BTW I really enjoy your honesty !!! This country is becoming WAY to politcally correct!!!!
Love the pics and really enjoy your honest and straight forward approch to the"Whats it worth" posters, don't change and I'll back you on most of your calls. Thanks for sharing the CVA-59 article. Regards, Kerry
Thanks for the support guys and gals
I can't believe they yanked " show and ask" I thought it was priceless. Maybe they will actually make such a category ??.... then maybe we could get Ray back too. I enjoyed his input, especially as a relatively new coke collector.
Two chances of that tommy1002............FAT and SLIM
