I found 5 of these yesterday - each one with different birds on them. They were beautifully done in some kind of laquer paints and they are old - 30s-40s would be my guess. They all had a lot of chips in the laquer, but i figured out how to restore them really well - using fingernail polish and a very fine steel wool. Mexican folk art is very similar to American folk art, but you can still find wonderful pieces! i'll post all 5 of these when i've finished with them.
A guacal is a gourd-like fruit which grows on a tree. They look like melon trees!
