This pistol is one of a limited run of pistols made in 1999-2000 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Sturm Ruger & Co. in 1949. It is a semi automatic recoil operated .22 caliber pistol. It resembles the German Luger in style only.

There have been several upgrades to this pistol since 1949, the latest version was the Mark IV, and many improvements have been made to it. This commemorative pistol has custom grips, a stainless bolt and a 50th Anniversary mark on the receiver. It also came with a commemorative case.

These pistols are not rare but do command a bit of a premium over the standard pistols. As an homage to the Mark I the receiver is not relieved to make pulling the bolt back easier, but it retains the slide stop which holds the bolt back after firing the last round, which was also a new feature with the Mark II.

A bit of the history of the company, pistol and a review of the pistol can be found here:

Nice gun. The Luger grip is one of the best.

Thanks for your comment, Toyrebel! I really like the ergonomics of these pistols.

Thanks for your comment flashlarue! They are great pistols. I used to have a MK I 5.5" bull barrel. After I shot the bullseye out of the 25 yard targets, I would start shooting the flowers off of the dandelion stems at the base of the targets. My eyes aren't good enough to do that any more.

Thanks for loving my Ruger commemorative pistol RichmondLori, flashlarue, Toyrebel and fortapache!

Fun little Ruger....I bought my son one of these for a birthday present when they came out. Like you say, it has the appearance of a German Luger :)

Thanks Eileen! It was a nice win, indeed. In my family firearms are a right of passage and my father gave me my first rifle, a .22, at the age of 10. I still have it. I stopped hunting many years ago.

      Nice Ruger

      I have a small hoard

I suppose I should get out the camera and post some RUGER too...

ALS took my best friends life. He was gracious enough to sell me his family gun collection at prices I could afford. Then gifted me the rest.. WoW

One is a MARK II Target from 1970's I think
Fun to operate , stylish and heavy , BULL Barrel not what they are selling today

      Enjoy Yours

      Cheers
