Ejiri in Suruga Province by Katsushika Hokusai
6 5/8" x 8 7/8"
With the matting it's about 13 1/4" x 11"
Print has some minor foxing and an indentation. But I bought it very cheaply and it still displays well. Will need a good frame.
Print of original woodblock
ARTIST: Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese, Tokyo (Edo) 1760
ORIGINAL DATE: ca. 1830–32
From the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji
Mount Fuji is shown without clouds, which were probably blown away by strong winds. Travelers along a meandering path on the Tokaido highway fight against the gusts, which are ripping papers from a pack and hats from their heads. The trees sway, and leaves dance in the sky. The frantic movements in the foreground contrast with the stillness of the mountain in the distance.
SEDGE
a grasslike plant with triangular stems and inconspicuous flowers, growing typically in wet ground. Sedges are widely distributed throughout temperate and cold regions.
I love this unusual scene. Beautiful!
Thank you..it is a very interesting scene. Way more so, than others I own. I also picked up another woodblock print, that I'll show soon.
