Framing 12" x 15"
TITLE: "Ancient Bristlecone Pine White Mtn, Cal"
ARTIST: William E. Reister
CIRCA: 1978
The photograph is titled, signed and dated by the artist. There's an inscription on the back, possibly from a previous owner? Photo needs to be reframed.
This is a color photograph of the skeleton an old Bristlecone Pine. It's appears he may have used a special lens, it has a purple-ish tint? Not sure how he achieved this look?
Reister was a California artist that worked out of San Francisco, California. He has a few known pieces, but not much is known about him.
Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest
The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is home to the oldest trees in the world, bristlecone pines. Some of these living trees exceed 4000 years of age and exhibit spectacular growth forms of twisted and beautifully colored wood.
The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is a protected area high in the White Mountains in Inyo County in eastern California. The Great Basin bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva) trees grow between 9,800 and 11,000 feet (3,000–3,400 m) above sea level, in very dry alpine conditions, protected within the Inyo National Forest. Limber pine (Pinus flexilis) also grow in the forest.
On September 4, 2008, an arsonist set fire to the Schulman Grove Visitor Center and several bristlecone pines. The building and all the exhibits within were destroyed. Activities to rebuild the center began the next day and are now complete.
The fabulous tree has an other-worldly, science fiction look....the forest must be an incredible sight! That’s just awful about the arson.
Yes ...crazy huh? Who would think to burn a park down? What a waste!
Thanks for the comments. I loved this photo the moment I saw it and knew it was special. My art guy had it way overpriced, but since I buy a lot of art..he sold it to me for my price.
