Wood Carved Frog & Snake

I gave the Sea Lion carving to my sister. So for xmas, she gave me this piece that she had recently purchased.

This piece features a frog at the end of a log, with a snake creeping up for lunch. It was very dry when I received it. After some beeswax, the piece really came to life. You can see all the details. The snake wraps all the way around.

Made in Bali, Indonesia it was skillfully carved from a "wood rose," a mushroom-like parasitic formation created by a mistletoe plant growing on a chinaberry tree.

These type of carvings were popular about 10 years ago. You don't see them very much anymore. But they do come up once in awhile.
