My wife's uncle was high up in private intelligence and the beginning of the CIA in WW2 he became a high ranking officer and was instrumental on the European front. He received many honors from allied countries and we got this crest from his estate.
There are some odd things about it, first the eagle is a black eagle, not a bald eagle. Second the moto is spelled incorrectly. Third the number of stars iscorrect, but the arrows is not.
It could just be a piece of folk art, or something that was displayed somewhere and removed and framed.
Anybody have any ideas on what this thing is?
Interesting piece, hopefully we can figure out what it is..
Thought I posted on here-- guess not??
I don't see a lot of age to it. A photo of the back may tell a different story.
Some additional photos would be helpful-- tiles may be marked on the back.
The crudeness of design and spelling are more indicative of a product from outside the US than an older item.

It is actually known as the Great Seal (better English sentence this time)!

I don't really want to take it apart. There is nothing on the back, it's just wood panel.
Tiles are often marked, but understand your reluctance to remove the backing board.
