Here is a 1948 Marlin 336 "Waffle Top" lever action rifle. So called because of the wavy lines on the top of the receiver. This configuration was used from 1948-1952, with the 1953 rifles being just smooth topped and later guns drilled and tapped to allow for mounting a scope. The "E" at the beginning of the serial number identifies it as a 1948 manufactured rifle.
This rifle has a fairly rare Lyman peep sight installed which did not require any modification to the rifle. Many "Waffle Tops" were drilled and tapped for scopes over the "waffling" altering their original condition and making them less collectible.

Some just offered me a 1948 336A! It looks like a super early one.
That would be great especially cool if it wasn't in .30-30... Any idea of the caliber?
