This is what I have been told of this item. “This comes from a veteran's club composed of
former Hussars who were members of "Hussar Regt. "King Wilhelm I (1 Rhenish) Nr. 7". The regiment
was garrisoned in Bonn and was originally raised in 1815. The standarte would have hung in the veteran
clubhouse, which is probably where your uncle "liberated" it. Hussars were cavalry horseman wearing very
elaborate uniforms consisting of a heavily braided tunic called an "Attila". The headgear was flat on top and
made of sealskin and had a flat bag attached called a "Kolpak". Hussar regiments were not seen after WWI. “
