Hello all I'm relatively new here but I was hoping someone might be able to help me identify this brooch.
As you can see it is a green carved piece of. Something likely I'd have thought to be glass however can't find many examples of items like this in glass they mainly seem to be emerald or jade. It has no inclusions that I can see and no bubbles within the material and the "stone" is foiled on the back.
The setting is white metal possibly pewter there are no purity or maker's marks that I can see.
If anyone has any information about where it was made, when it was made and and what the green cabachon is made from I'd be really grateful
Hello! This is a lovely brooch. Is your brooch heavy. It seems to be carved glass. Deco maybe. What are the dimensions?
The metal seems very soft but bright. The front seems to be in better shape than the back. The clasp is also indicative of age.

Hello thank you for your input it is as you say a deco design. The metal is a bit strange it's definitely not silver or platinum I can tell just by the look and feel. It could be pewter but I'm not convinced so probably a base metal / alloy of sorts. The hinge and catch I think might be later editions as there is quite a lot of solder around the base of the safety catch and in fact I'm not entirely sure that the cabachon is original to the rest of the brooch it just seems to be superior in quality to the metal work ???? thank you for the article I love researching stuff! However with this piece Ive really struggled to find much at all that's similar. I'm not even sure if it's Scandinavian, Scottish, German or an English repro of any of those styles haha xx
The maker could be Tennesmed Sweden. works with pewter
But i am not sure.

Thanks Aura I'll look into that I have a few pewter bits from Sweden mostly filigree or modernist pieces by Erik Fleming but it did remind me of some of the more traditional "viking style" pieces I've seen!
Hi again,
What are the dimensions? Thanks for replying!
Hi honey the diameter is 4.5cm so quite large the cabachon it's self is 3.5cm and then the metal setting is 4-5 mm
