This winged horse nabeshiki (trivet) is 5.25" in diameter x .75" high. It weighs 9.9 ounces and has a maker's mark and label on back. I purchased this directly from an antique dealer in Japan. They described it as a "Nabeshiki Vintage Signed Nanbu Ironware Pegasus". Later, I found another Japanese seller in Iwate Prefecture, Japan who told me it was made by an Iwate foundry named Bunshudou. It shows a lot of age and wear, but I do not know, and cannot guess, how old it is. The label may be a clue, but I have not been able to decipher it. It appears to have a pair of peacocks on it, though. This is one of a pair of apparently very old trivets I purchased from this dealer. From the seller's images I wasn't sure if this piece was old or just artificially aged to look old but, once I examined it in person, I became convinced that it is old.

Winged horses are part of Japanese and Chinese myth, but I don't know if that or the Greek Pegasus myth were the inspiration for this trivet.
