I found this Gem on Craigslist because I just liked the size and it looked handmade. I am amazed that someone could build a full machinist tool box by hand. When I started taking it apart to clean and display I saw the hand written note on the inside “Don’t take, USS Mt McKinley”. Then I noticed the USS and USN stamps on the interior facing sheet metal. After some research I learned that the USS MtMcKinley was commissioned and used during WWII and through Korea then was sold for scrap. And was scraped in Portland OR where I live. I imagine that one of the workers at the scrap yard decided to set some pieces aside before they were melted down and probably snuck these pieces out to use them to build the toolbox. Just love finding and researching this kind of stuff and wonder if it’s one of a kind. Super Cool.
