This knife has been in my possession since the mid 1960’s. It was purchased in an antique store in Manhattan, NY. I have no idea of it’s origin or age. It is in almost perfect condition except for age-cracks in handle.
- Overall length is just under 17” - the handle and blade both are approximately 8 1/2” each.
- the handle appears to be made of Ivory ( my guess)
- the handle metal work is very fine (IMO)
My guess is that it is from the Ottoman Turkish/ Middle East region (my guess only)
I would like to know it’s approximate age, value, and place of origin
Very nice example of a Turkish jambiya.
Hi, I have a similar blade and I'm pretty sure you and I have a Billao - also known as a belawa, a horn-hilted Somali shortsword. It served most notably as a close-quarters weapon in the Dervish State, at the turn of the 20th century.
Pierre2000 has it right. I missed the mark.
