Found at known civil war encampment. Would love to know if this is indeed from same period or maybe later??? . I cleaned up rust by using electrolysis . Can’t find any markings of any kind . Bottom end of knife might be bone or brass not sure? But the bottom end has distinct type of hardware/bolt that is attached which may help with identifying make or age? Anybody has any suggestions or thoughts love to hear back! Thanks !!

Looks like a 20th century hunting knife.

I listed one like this a few months back. Thanks for reaching out! After a lot of online searching I figured that mine was (or was similar to) a Marble's Hunting knife based on the shape of the pommel, the length of the blade, and the choil. I contacted Smokey Mountain Knife Works which appears to be the retail arm of Marble Arms. This was their reply:

I agree with the approximate shape of the piece being like a Marble's hunter. This is a probably as good a guess as anyone could make with this yard
find. Marble's introduced their first knife named "The Idea" back in 1900. Other models followed thereafter. Of course we are all guessing based on the shape. In my opinion you are on the right track. I hope this information is helpful.

      Me again:
I do believe our knives are slightly different based on the choil. My blade and tang are magnetic. Here is a link to an article that had some images that helped with the identification. Good luck to you!
