Waitaminnit...that's not the way that phrase is supposed to go...?? <lol>
Pics 3 & 4 was in my bedroom until a few hours ago. What could be a nifty 1940's-ish (?) art-deco styled veneer pattern might or not still be lurking under the pale gray paintjob it had accumulated before I got it, I kinda think it might have been stripped off before the paint since there are no extra 'seams' visible now. Not ever a terribly high quality piece, it otherwise features its original bakelite (?) handles. Interesting wooden casters have been added underneath it, also a long time ago.
Pics 1 & 2 is now in my bedroom in its place. :-) Made of solid quartersawn oak, this appears to be a high quality piece which might even have hand-cut dovetail joints on its drawerfronts. Each drawer works on slender hardwood (?) runners, and it has all matching turned oak knobs including the two studs to hold a mirror between its arms. Each drawer is fitted with a lock featuring a brass bezel, I have keys and the few locks I've tried still operate. It has cast iron casters. What I *don't* have yet is the actual mirror...I'd sorta forgot it had one, so havta go further digging to see if I can unearth that somewhere...? <lol> Pic 2 is as it came outta the back of the truck from storage, pic 1 is after only one thorough rubdown with Old English, which it seems to have drunk in and responded to very nicely... :-) I have not noticed any markings whatsoever on it. More pics in a post (or two) of their own will be to come of this dresser, for now I need to finish vacuuming its drawers so I can get all my t-shirts and drawws offa the top of the bed again... <lol>
So beautiful!
Nice upgrade. I'm sure, though, that someone would love to explore restoring the other piece, if you could get it into the right hands...
Not to worry Kevin, that person won't be me but that chest is now in storage where the 'new' one came from, until I maybe do find whoever it is...? ;-) :-)
OH DEAR, more furniture moving is in my forecast...while searching anew for the mirror for this one I just realized I have a matching 2-drawer version of this chest too... <groan> Never did find the mirror BTW... :-(
I have this exact dresser and always wondered what it was worth. When I received it I was told it was over 100 years old and I have it for 8 years now1
Sorry I should of explained it was the first picture
