Trench Art-- utilitarian and decorative ware made from War detritus (waste or debris).
This is a great souvenir piece, celebrating the Armistice.
One side has initials "C S", bullets, a US uniform button and "11, 11, 18". Other side has "Weltz- Krieg" "1914-18", bullets and two German buttons.
This probably belonged to an American soldier with the "CS" initials.
Body made from shell brass and other War detritus decorating the body of the piece. Photos/ lighting give this an almost reddish hue to it-- in hand it shows an expected dark brownish coloration.
My trench art and my photos, don't copy!
Thanks tom, vetraio and scott.

Haven't seen quite this style. Nice.
"Body made from shell brass and other War detritus decorating the body of the piece. "
Are you saying those are actual bullets? Can't tell that in pics? And just like your criticism of my item, how do you know it's shell brass vs any other brass after the war? Like a memorial piece?
TRENCH ART: Authentic Bullets, Authentic WW1 Buttons, Authentic WW1 shell brass.
Any one of these EIGHT individual pieces of War detritus, would qualify this as trench art.

Ok, thanks. Was just asking for clarification ..can't tell from looking at pictures. Very cool. I've seen similar type matchboxes, I'm curious can you tell me or guess what the thickness of the metal is? Looks maybe 1/8"?
Thanks newfld and VO.
