1940s Weaver J-2.5 Rifle Scope
This Weaver scope was mounted with a side bracket to my 1948 Marlin 336A. The scope is very early and era correct for the rifle. The previous owner filled the holes in the receiver with appropriate screws. I believe this scope was purchased with the rifle.
This scope was made in El Paso, Texas.
The Weaver "J" line was introduced in 1947, at the same time as the "K" line. The K was a 1" tube, and the J was a 3/4" tube. At the time, many shooters preferred the smaller tubes because of the weight savings. Remember these rifles were made for hunting and carried through miles of woods.
The J scopes looked like rimfire scopes, but actually had long eye relief, and were built to take centerfire recoil. The J line was discontinued in 1967, when shooters no longer wanted a 3/4" centerfire scope.
