"The abundance of items created by soldiers in World War I and in the years immediately after gave rise to the term “trench art.” Over time, the term has become generalized to refer to art made from ordnance or military equipment from any era."
(Smithsonian, National Air and Space Museum)
Tiny Pacific theater P-38 on a shell base.
The shell base has markings showing that it is a desirable Japanese shell that was used to create the object.
I am not sure what was used to make the actual airplane. It does have small sections of poured lead to hold the wings in place. A small nail was used to hold the plan atop the shell.
My photos and my trench art-- do not copy.
Thanks fort, scott, and vetraio.
