I found this really pretty little bowl the other day. I can't tell whether it is glass or vitrified porcelain? it's quite thin and white on the inside and yellow on the outside. I thought it had a Japanese mark on the bottom, but when i got home and looked at it w/ a magnifying glass, i realized they were letters. I think they read 'MK - B.D. J/A'

    any help with this appreciated!

      Is it “BO JIA” ???
    2. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 4 years ago
That could be Kevin. does that mean anything to you?

I think it is antique eggshell vitreous porcelain, probably Asian in spite of the mark, must be a story here, bought directly from the maker, maybe. Very nice.

I think the MK is for Middle Kingdom. Bo Jia is a person.

Bo Jia and Alison Alten established the Middle Kingdom kiln to broaden porcelain traditions for a modern audience.

That will help you to the info on them.

antique eggshell ? this is literally brandnew, because the early vases which are actually also late are signed differently

so there is an assessment difference for almost 100 years TOD

Great information! This solves one of my mystery CW posts! I posted a red sake flask a couple of years ago with the same markings! So is mine an honest reproduction or just a fake meant to deceive?

Ah, read the whole post and get it, now. This is a new kiln creating porcelain in an earlier tradition. Not copies or fakes, just something modern made in homage to an older style of Chinese porcelain....

actually it,is flooding the market, and they do this quite succesfully , because the porcelain is, not that steep to pay
it,s the same modis operandi as the zongde yellow grounds also on this site
