Here is an interesting recent find of mine that I thought some of you may enjoy. It appears to be a United States government book made in 1896 from Congress. It is filled with photographs like the one in the 4th picture of this listing showing different areas along the US and Mexico boundry. There are 258 pages with pictures and 2 with just writing. All the pages are intact with little to no wear. It is about 15 inches across and 11 inches from top to bottom. Upon researching this item I was not able to find anything like it, but something similar seemed to have sold for around $2600.00 at auction. Any feedback on this item would be greatly appreciated ,related to its history as well as significance, and I thank you in advance.

The auction mentioned above ( Joint Maps of the Northern Boundary of the US) states the following: This survey, along with the survey that marked the Mexican-U.S. border, finally determined all the borders of the lower forty-eight states and was the zenith of military surveying in the nineteenth century. See Frank N. Schubert, Vanguard of Expansion: Army Engineers in the Trans-Mississippi West, 1819-1879 (Washington, D.C.: U.S. Department of the Army, Office of the Chief of Engineers, 1980).

Have a great evening my friends and an awesome weekend! : )

I find no actual record for $2,6000 of the single book you have from the multi-volume 1891-1896 remarking of the boundary between Mexico and the U.S. Would you please direct me to your source?

I do not mind if you quote from my work, but it is copyright protected.
All I ask is that you acknowledge your source.

      Thank you,
      Dorothy Sloan

Thank you for stopping by Dorothy. Upon joining the liveauctioneers website it allows you to see also what the auctions have sold for. Per the references and acknowledgment link above it does show that a book "Joint Maps of the Northern Boundry of the US" sold for $2600.00 by Dorothy Sloan Rare Books.
