Recently I bought this 40 cm high Socrates bust of patinated metal on a base of black lacquered wood at an auction. It's believed to be a copy of Lysippos (390 b.C-300 b.C.)'s lost bronze statue of Socrates (469 b.C.-399 b.C.). Since Socrates is spelled Sokrates, I believe it's made in Denmark. The dark colors seem to point to late 19th century. But maybe you know better ? I found it fitting for decoration in my library. On the sec. pic. you can see it in the background. The patination is worn, so I'm considering shining the metal part up with gold spraylacquer. With the color dealers Corona-closed, I have time to consider.

I think HE found a great home in your library. Very sophisticated - both the bust and the room. :)
