While playing around at a friend's ranch in 1979, I spotted this heavy, porcelain enameled metal 12" x 5.5" Telephone sign!
She said if I like it, I should take it with me!
So I did!
Cool!
Thanks, Ginger!
The new, simplified design was introduced in 1939 and was in official phone company use until 1969!
They could still be seen here and there well into the 1990s!
Thanks for that additional information, ttomtucker!
When I first saw it, it was covered with at least 25 years of road dirt
and had been carelessly smeared with off-white paint.
When I removed it, the opposite side was revealed as you see it now, unsullied!
I've always displayed it prominently!
It's printed on both sides, with the reverse showing the arrow pointing in the opposite direction.
Very nice sign
but it sent me off into an Endless right turn
just keep going right
your sign is referred to as a 39 bell sign. the sign logo was introduced by the Bell System in 1939 and was used up until 1969. many of these signs were still around in the 1990's
Sorry about giving you the spins, Vynil.
Thanks for the information, ttomtucker!
I might have to edit my post now.
Thanks and a "ding-a-ling" of the old rotary phone to
