Hi I have recently inherited this ansonia clock that was gifted to my great grandfather by the union he represented. He received it in 1917 but I believe the clock may be a bit older it is and open escapement slate clock I think. I would love to know more about it.

Hi. Welcome to Collectors Weekly, Clocks! Your heirloom clock is a Marble Cased model that Ansonia called "El Techo" from circa 1907. Your particular clock could have been manufactured several years before or after that date. It was a fairly expensive clock listing for about $33 back then. That around the equivalent of $900 in 2021. I'm thinking that they didn't hand gifts like this out to just anyone.

It must not have been a very common model. I say that because I can't find any other examples within a quick internet search. I am sure that an "El Techo" is what you have. It is found on page 331 of noted authority Tran Duy Ly's reference book "Ansonia Clocks and Watches". Arlington Books. It was listed as meauring 16 1/4" high and 15" wide. I'm betting it is pretty heavy. Be sure to carry it with your fingers wrapped around the bottom of the case. The top parts of the case can separate if the clock is carried by them.

If that solves your mystery, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your posting. If you have more questions, ask away. Someone here can probably help.

      Thanks for sharing.
