My Grandfather's WW1 medals. From left to right...
. 1914 Star. or Pip, or Mons Star. Issued to those who had served in France or Belgium between 5th Aug 1914 and 22 Nov 1914. The rose and clasp indicate he served 'under fire of the enemy'. Around 378,000 1914 Stars were issued. Made in bronze.

. British War Medal 1914-18, or Squeak! Issued to British forces that served 'overseas' between Aug 14 and Nov 18. Made is silver or bronze.

. Allied Victory Medal, or Wilfred! Aprox 5.7 million issued!

. The Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. Awarded to soldiers of good conduct who had completed 21 years service in the infantry or 24 years in the cavalry. Made of silver.

I'm very proud of this little set. Especially the good conduct medal. In those days medals were worth having.

Great set, and you should be proud! I enjoyed hearing them called Pip, Squeek & Wilfred again. What's the unit inscribed around the edges?
