I've looked and looked with different keywords to find one like this and see what it is, year and material. No marks other than a "17" stamped on the hinge. Looks like silver, but probably sp. Ewer? Pitcher, teapot?

If nothing else, the *handle* on this is a spectacularly fun stylistic touch -- I love it no matter what it is and where it came from?!!

I thought pewter too, but I think silverplate. Was hoping silver but no marks. The it thing I've found with the braided rope like is was Italian

      Hi, horserescuer. :-)

Google Lens turned up a near twin:

      *snip*

Vintage Turkish Dallah Silvered Brass/Copper Coffee Pot, 12”, Pakistan 1960's

      *snip*

      https://www.ebay.com/itm/225725194468

It turned up a lot of other near twins, and the descriptions are pretty consistently of a "dallah."

So, basically an Arabic coffee or tea pot.
