This fab vase is one of three pieces of Welz spatter glass that I scored yesterday...can you imagine how thrilled I was? Three Welz vases all in one go = one extremely happy little camper!
This one is of the sixteen - lobed shape (just like Peggy's recently posted ruby frit vase), & made from three layers of cased glass - clear over multicoloured spatter, with a white interior.
It measures 10 cm tall, 7.6 across the scalloped top rim, & 7.6 cm across the clear applied footed base.
It also perfectly matches the lidded bowl I posted recently. Seriously, it does not get much better than this!
Stay tuned for more Welz delights coming soon...
Beautiful colour, IronLace - love the pink, green and red spatter throughout the body. Can't wait to see the other two items!
Isn't it always the same, Marin, the moment you've finally ID'd your mystery vase others turn up, However it's great to have a fellow collector who loves the Victorian aesthetic because many Welz collectors go for Art Deco Welz. I believe that the spatter mix on your lovely piece is the mix used in the creation of the décor called, Harlequin Honeycomb.
Many thanks, Russel117, I agree, it's such a vibrant spatter, & that deep red really adds a punch to it.
Peggy, I never cease to be amazed at how often that happens, when things turn up like that, especially when you've not seen them before. There ought to be a proper term for it. I'll put my thinking cap on & see if I can come up with a suitable epithet!
And I think it is wonderful that we share a love of the Victorian aesthetic...it thrilled me when as a newbie to CW, I found your posts...& thought, here's someone else with the same great taste in glass, LOL! But seriously, I just drank it all in, & seeing your collection helped me to better focus mine (it had been terribly wayward over the years) & learn more about the diversity of Welz.
I do love the Art Deco Welz also...but I'm just a Victorian at heart, a hangover of the Mauve Decade... :-)
It really is such a wonderful, bold spatter...& I can definitely see the same vibrant tones at play in my couple of examples of Harlequin Honeycomb...
I'd be thrilled to have scored this one as well. It's SO00 very beautiful. Your collection is simply outstanding!!
BEAUTIFUL Welz!!

Many thanks, jscott0363!
Thanks also, Scott - & more Welz is coming right up...
I like the lip of this one, works well with the feet and bulbous body.
So Welz.
You got three newbies?
Cheers, Karen, yes it's classic Welz...& wasn't I a happy camper to score three Welz cuties all on one day! Fabulous!
