In 1976, we explored the long-abandoned-and-boarded-up Casa de Fresa Hotel off of Hwy. 51 in the sleepy little heart of downtown Hammond, LA., "Down In The Land Of Strawberries!"
It had locked its doors and boarded up its lower windows in 1970, but we found a way up to a 2nd floor balcony and had a great time checking out the once-busy 3-story hotel for a few hours! There was a Dining Room with a cool blue neon sign above the entrance!
I climbed down the elevator shaft and found this Matchbook wedged into a space between the 1st and 2nd floors! It was next to a Coca-Cola bottle that had been left there in 1924!
As the interior of the matchbook shows, they were proud of, among other things, the fact that they were Air-Conditioned, since that wasn't available in most hotels of the period!
It was fun imagining what that huge hotel had looked like back in the 1930s during its heyday!
Unfortunately, it ain't there no more.
But the enjoyable memories of searching through the memories left hidden in the Casa de Fresa will always remain!
The strawberry coolness of this is matched only by the Red phosphorus
No really they’re cool they’re striking
I love old advertising paper
They spend so much more time
on the graphics and colors
BOY!, no kidding, Vynil!
The old ways are the best!
But they aren't really striking,
since there are no matches left in this matchbook!
