I have to say I'm struggling to see a kangaroo in this- in the thumbnail I see either a swan, or is it a skunk?(something with a really long tail?!) but its a really nice and elegant little brooch- I love the colourful stones and raised tail

Very cute!! But, I'm with Lauren, I'm seeing a very cute little skunk.

Going all Aussie on me! A sparkly macropod.
Looks like a wallaroo to me (just kidding)

Thank you so much Lori for your lovely compliment, I am so glad that you found this kangaroo to be pretty, he's quite an unusual Bogoff design from one of my favorite vintage jewelry co's. They have some great varied pieces that rarely have any stone loss after so many yrs, and were once 3rd in popularity (after Trifari & Coro I believe) in their heyday

Lauren I had a feeling this animal would be a challenge for you, thank you for your great & thoughtful comment :) Yes with all those pastel rhinestones on the body & tail I can certainly see a skunk or swan too, it was called kangaroo by the Bogoff seller who seems to know alot about that jewelry line but who knows, it does resemble other animals

Thanks Scott for your wonderful comment and another vote for a skunk, I can see it in the body but not the big-eared head, so I think a crouching kangaroo or other macropod animal is more likely

Yep Karen I am definitely in an Aussie mood this weekend, esp after realizing from your email that it is summer where you are and snowless you lucky person :) I would much rather be in Aus right at this moment as I look outside to another layer of ice on the ground & cars. You are so right about this brooch, a wallaroo or even wallaby seem more apt than the larger kangaroo, but being a 1960s design this US jewelry co was probably just learning about kangaroos as they were not as knowledgeable about the worldwide animal species as we are familiar with today. Thank you for your fab comment as ever

Pretty colors in this piece. At first look, thought it was a swan, but I can see kangaroo

Thanks Ken for your super compliments, I am so thrilled that you liked this Bogoff kangaroo - it is quite unusual but as you said, those fruit salad stones & pave swirl design were so appealing to me, I can never resist a lovely Bogoff piece. Appreciate the kind words always my friend, and so happy you're back :)

Thank you so much MrsT for your sweet praise and another vote for a swan, yes the swirl design could definitely be seen as a swan if not for the cute little head and clawed feet! Maybe Bogoff was deliberately trying to deceive the eye with this piece, I know their angel fish which I posted in the past has a very odd extended tail, guess the designer wanted to break from reality lol

You're so right Rob, this animal is a real brain teaser! Squirrel is a good one, I also thought of a rabbit or even a ferret, think the Bogoff designers were playing with us. Thank you for your great insightful comment :)
